5 Steps to Become Healthy Now and Get in Shape Today

Are you unsatisfied with your current energy levels? Do you want to get in shape and feel better? Have you let your eating habits slip? Then it is time to take control. Start today, and make the best decision you ever made to become healthy and get in shape. Here is how:

Step 1 : Get Motivated

I’ve found that one of the best way to get and stay motivated is to read success stories, watch results videos and pictures. Imagine yourself looking and feeling like the people that you observe. For instance, one of the reasons I started P90X was because I saw the amazing transformations that people were making on YouTube. Just do a google search of “P90X Transformation”.

Step 2 : Get Educated

Read up on different fitness programs. Learn about healthy eating habits. Read reviews and tips about what does and does not work. Don’t be the person who is drinking sugar free coke and eating cheese puffs because, “it says it has no sugar.” If I hear that again I will die. Come on people, this is your health we are talking about. Take it seriously, and learn what really works.

Healthy MealStep 3 : Get it together

Once you are familiar with what is out there it is time to choose your exercise plan. Do you want to work out at home or at the gym? You can do both! I prefer home because of time reasons.

Plan out a time to exercise. I enjoy morning workouts, due to the increased energy I get throughout the day. What works with your schedule? Write down on your calendar which exercise you will be doing each day.

Figure out what your caloric needs are and pick a variety of foods that you will eat. It is also very wise to toss out any unhealthy and tempting foods laying around your home.

Plan out your meals for the week. Doing this allows you to remove all doubts of what you need to eat. It also gives you a clear shopping list when you head to the store. Without this sort of plan you are bound to fall into your old habits fast.

Step 4 : Get to work

Start exercising! This is the hard part for most people, however if you have a plan, it will be a matter of going through the routines. Make it easy on yourself.

Develop the habit and do NOT skip a day. Even if you can only work out 10 minutes a day due to your schedule, JUST DO IT. It takes close to 30 days to develop a new habit. Once you have it ingrained, it will be harder to break, therefore the first few weeks are very critical.

Have a backup plan in case something doesn’t go as usual. This means alternate meal choices when in a time crunch, choosing correct meals when dining out, and deciding on exercises that you can do anywhere with or without proper equipment. Don’t worry about getting everything done. Don’t worry about doing everything right. Just do the right things!

Record what you have done. I don’t know if I will be able to state the importance of this. Keep track of your weight, energy levels, mood, size, etc. Each week try and improve a small amount over your previous results that you have written down. The results that you see are going to be proportional to the work that you put in.

Without knowing where you started, it will seem as if you aren’t making any progress but that isn’t true! Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps. Before you know it, you will begin to feel better, look better, and be much happier and productive.

I love hearing stories from other people. Did this article help you get clear on what step to take? Do you have any other suggestions? Feel free to comment. I look forward to your success!

Hi Jonathan, thanks for commenting! Great job on getting to day 10 of P90X! I just did YogaX today, and I have heard from many that it is not their favorite. All of the other workouts are much more action packed.

Yoga is all about quieting the mind, and breathing. It isn’t something you can learn overnight. Practice focusing on your breath and taking long deep breathes while working out. Treat it almost as a meditation.

You can also increase the intensity of the workout by going much lower during the beginning phases. Your legs will burn!

Finally, realize that the Yoga workout REALLY does improve your overall fitness and ability to complete all other exercises.
